Course Learning Outcome 6

“Formulate and articulate a stance through and in your writing.”

In any technical writing the stance refers to the attitude of the writer. This was one of the more difficult aspects of the rhetorical situation to address. In certain documents an intuition of the stance can determined.

“The research provides insight to issues within this field. While the overall goal is to treat burns and other damages done to the skin, there are many issues that need to be resolved in order to reach the long-term goal. As a scientist, these problems do intrigue me and I look forward to reading how they are resolved.”

Although it is rather difficult to convey a stance in a lab report the attitude of writer is very important. If the author does not follow the conventions of that document than it loses reliability. Interestingly, a stance can be seen in the conclusion of the lab report. If the research discovers something useful than perhaps the hope of potential uses of that research suggests the attitude of artificial skin grafts.
