Course Learning Outcome 7

“Practice using various library resources, online databases, and Internet to locate sources appropriate to your writing projects,”

Throughout the course of the semester all the documents written required sources. The sources used were peer-reviewed, written by experts of that particular field, and ensured that the information provided in our documents were factually accurate, further emphasizing a point being made. The audience is given a sense of security that the information being presented is accurate since it is written people who have studied the subject.

Figure 3: References page for Technical Project Proposal

When we started the Proposal document, we had a class where we went to the library and a librarian taught us on how to look for resources. During this class we were taught on how to identify reliable website, key words to find closely related articles, and various databases that would contain relevant documents. My discipline of engineering is biomedical engineering and for the proposal my group worked on the Wearable Artificial Kidney. In figure 3, some of the relevant databases were found using City Colleges Online Database. A very helpful database is Pubmed, which has articles of devices or procedures in a clinical setting. In The Lancet, is a journal with a variety of articles on various topics. The use of City Colleges database, as well as library resources such as the librarian, allowed for efficient searches for articles to provide for a more persuasive proposal.
