O. Course Learning Outcome 8

Course Learning Outcome 8

“Strengthen your source use practices (including evaluating, integrating, quoting, paraphrasing, summarizing, synthesizing, analyzing, and citing sources)”

This outcome is evident by looking at the progression of my own writing. The first project that the class worked on was the technical description. For the third project, the proposal, my group decided that we would work on the Wearable Artificial Kidney. Our document required a technical description as a part of the proposal, which I contributed to the group.

Figure 4 and 5: Excerpt of Technical Description vs. Excerpt of Technical Description from Proposal (Description of components)

For the technical description project describing the components was a difficult aspect, I was uncertain about the level of specificity that was needed. As seen in the figures above, most of the information came from one source and was superficial for the UGEO WS80A sonogram. For the proposal, I had more background information from biology and chemistry classes I had taken. My technical description was more thorough, and the use of sources allowed for me to expand on the components of the Wearable Artificial Kidney. Throughout the course of the semester, the concepts learned in this course allowed me to effectively utilize sources and strengthen my argument.
